The Home Care Staffing Crisis: Managing Care at Home Without Help
Boost your caregiving knowledge with the Caregiving Essentials Webinar Series which is part of the free Caregiving Essentials course offered by McMaster Continuing Education.
This month, join host Donna Thomson as she welcomes Sarah Kaplan, MSW (retired), for an interactive discussion about managing the home care staffing crisis while being a caregiver. Sarah is a retired healthcare professional & spousal caregiver. Before retiring to be a full-time caregiver, Sarah managed a medical forensic program, led change projects, focusing on caregiver inclusion in healthcare, new mental health programs & community strategic alliances. Currently, she spends time writing about the health impact of caregiving with a special interest in posttraumatic stress disorder. Together with Donna Thomson, Sarah will reflect on her personal story of pandemic caregiving amidst a home care staffing crisis. How can families access support when there are no home care workers to fill shifts?
In this interactive webinar, we will invite participants to share their stories of “making do” without care staff in the current home care crisis. After the formal webinar, guests are invited to stay for a less formal discussion where you can exchange ideas and get some of your questions answered, or help others with your own knowledge.
