Caregiver Support Forum by United Way East Ontario
Wednesday, October 6, 2021 Two session options: 1-2 PM or 7-8 PM
Most Ontarians have been or will be someone’s caregiver at some point in their lives. Twenty-nine percent of the provincial population—or 3.3 million people—provide some form of support, assistance, care or enrichment to a family member or friend. According to the Canadian Institute for Health Information, 1 in 3 caregivers in Canada are distressed, which can include feelings of anger or depression, or the inability to continue with caring activities. Unpaid, distressed caregivers are providing the care of a full-time job: 38 hours per week. And this was before COVID-19.
To support those who care for our communities’ most vulnerable people, the Successful Aging Advisory Committee—convened by United Way East Ontario in Lanark County—has been actioning recommendations from the Eastern Ontario Caregiver Strategy that was released in the fall of 2020.
The Caregiver Support Forum will touch on these themes from the Caregiver Strategy: Education and Training, specifically education and supports for caregivers and families that will increase knowledge, reduce stress, and provide concrete skills.
