The project “Vivre comme personnes aidantes” aims to support Francophone caregivers by helping them to continue taking care of themselves while providing care for their patient.
L’Union culturelle des Franco-Ontariennes disseminates information in French to the community through workshops, coffee meet-ups (in person or virtual), brochures, a recorded video, a website, a Facebook page, caregiver support groups (in person, over the phone or virtual), and by encouraging and equipping them to take charge of their own health in order to continue to care for their patient. Resource persons (multiplier trainers) were trained to give workshops to caregivers and to set up Francophone support groups across Ontario.
A network of visiting or telephone volunteers is being trained. The members of l’Union culturelle des Franco-Ontariennes are in the best position to support caregivers by training the Francophone support networks in their communities. Volunteer members are key to the success of this program.
Volunteer members are information and dissemination hubs for the initiative, using existing networks in their communities.
L’Union culturelle des Franco-Ontariennes ensures that other associations and organization work together to promote workshops, coffee-meet-ups, videoconferences, the website, the Facebook page and the support groups as well as the distribution of brochures and free rooms.
