Grief: Facing Illness, Death, and Other Losses
Grief and loss can be a lonely and isolating experience. As a caregiver, you may encounter grief at different points on your caregiving journey. In recognition of National Grief and Bereavement Day, we welcome back Dr. Patrick McGrath to talk about:
• Different kinds of grief and their accompanying emotions
• What you can do to understand the grieving process
• Tips on how to cope with grief and loss
OUR SPEAKERS:
Dr. Patrick McGrath is a clinical psychologist and Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University and a scientist at the IWK Health Centre where his research is based. He is an Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Ottawa and founder and president of 90Second Health Letters. He
frequently treats caregivers with anxiety in his private practice.
Breanne Lyng is a Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario and Nova Scotia with a master’s degree in counselling psychology and is certified in Level 2 Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Since January 2021, Breanne has been a peer mentor volunteer with OCO and assists with the Young Caregiver Group. She
was a primary caregiver for her parents who had both battled cancer until their passings.
