Decisions… Decisions: Understanding Consent and Capacity by Alzheimer Society of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington

September 30, 2021
2:00 pm

Everyday we make hundreds of decisions. Some big, some small. But what happens when a person is no longer able to understand their own needs and limitations? What happens when a person is no longer able to understand their options for making informed decisions. What happens when a person can no longer appreciate the risks or benefits or consequences of their choices?

A Mental Capacity Assessment is a medical legal assessment that looks at a persons’ mental or cognitive ability to make choices or decisions. It is not a test of how someone acts, behaves or copes with everyday life. It is an assessment of how they think, reason and problem solve. A Mental Capacity Assessment looks at WHO needs to be making the decisions – the client or a substitute decision maker.

Join the webinar on September 30, 2021 to learn more about what a Mental Capacity Assessment is, when it is necessary and do, discuss options for securing supports and assistance for those who do not have the mental or cognitive ability to make their own choices about money and/or personal care issues.
