Cultivating an Attitude of Gratitude in Caregiving by Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities

October 14, 2020
2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

In October, we celebrate Thanksgiving, a holiday where we pause and reflect on what we are grateful for in our
lives. Gratitude is widely perceived as a key factor to wellbeing by different cultures and faiths. There is growing
research in the relationship between the benefits of gratitude and caregiver coping. In this workshop, we will
examine gratitude as one intervention for coping and provide time saving and practical exercises to foster
gratitude.

About the facilitator:
Brenda Davie is the owner and operator of Silent Heroes. She is a freelance caregiver coach and workshop
facilitator supporting family caregivers who care for an adult or child living with a health condition or disability.
She currently writes monthly caregiving blogs for various caregiving websites. Brenda also works for a national
non-profit healthcare company as a virtual caregiver coach supporting sons and daughters of aging parents and
is a caregiver coach for Veteran Affairs under their program The Caregiver Zone. As well, Brenda is a volunteer
co-lead for a provincially funded caregiver self management program. On a personal note, Brenda was a
caregiver for 10 years to her Mom living with dementia.
